Friday
Well, it was a lot of hard work put in Friday. There were quite a few interruptions, but we managed to get a little over half of the BGV’s recorded. What a long day. It’s sounding really good! I am so pleased at the amount of work we put in, and how God has been blessing this whole thing!
Nashville
Okay. On our day off, Jacki and I headed for Nashville. It’s always an adventure getting somewhere when it’s her and me. Well, no gear shift problems. But, there were a lot of missed exits and scary moments. We finally did get to Nashville. We walked down Broadway and visited the shops and stuff. It was pretty hot outside. We visited the Gruhn Guitar Center. We also visited The Hatch Print Shop –a single-letter printing press from like the 1800′s, if I recall correctly. They make old time posters for new artists and events. It’s really cool. I should have bought one, but I wouldn’t have anywhere to put it up.
We also stopped at one place and saw a lot of clothing that reminded me of Elissa…one tank top read, “I’ve got a lot of honky tonk in my badonka donk.”
We ate at the Old Spaghetti Factory. It was sooo nice inside. I was WAY underdressed and feeling nasty from walking all over town in the hot sun. I ate a 4 course meal for $10 in a fancy restaurant in Nashville!
We also made it down to the new Grand Ole Opry. It was closed. Then, we walked around the mall and visited the Gibson Guitar Center. Very cool. All in all, it was a very long walk. We slept well.
Day 2
Hello! Well, for some reason Jacki’s gear shift would not budge Wednesday morning! God worked everything out though. We got to the studio about an hour late. The cool thing though is we recorded the vocals for 9 of the songs! I only have 1 more track to record for the main vocals. Then, we can record the background vocals as well! It really is awesome! We have made so much progress in just two sessions! I can’t wait to get back to the studio!
Another thing…the studio is located in Lynnville (equivalent to Mayberry). It is so small and quiet and cute. It has an old train station in the middle of it. The only place to get a bite to eat is called The Soda Pop Junction. Jacki and I went to lunch Wednesday and split a platter. We weren’t that hungry, and I didn’t want to eat too much, because I was singing and all. The platter included 2 marinated chicken breasts, toast, a small salad, and fries for $6.99. Pretty good deal. When the waitress brought our food out. We each got a chicken breast, two pieces of toast, a basket of fries, and a small salad. Way too much food for us to finish!
We decided to get a soda instead of our usual water with lemon. Since it was called Soda Pop Junction…why not order a soda? I read the list and saw something that looked unique. I asked the waitress, “Oooh, what is Sun Drop?” She looked at me like I was a freak and then was speachless. Jacki explained that it was like Mountain Dew. I shrugged and ordered a Root Beer. Then, the waitress went back to her friend behind the counter and laughed at me. I looked outside and there was a huge truck pulling off with Sun Drop all over it. Since then, I’ve been told that Sun Drop is THE drink of choice where we were.
The family I am staying with, the Adelgrens, picked us up from the studio and we all went to Cracker Barrel. I found that anyone can order from the kids menu. How cool is that! Don’t make any jokes about me looking young either! If you look at the menu it reads, “kids of all ages.” Anyway, I ordered the shrimp, hush puppies and mashed potatos…$4.29 and comes with a drink! Pretty good size portion. I didn’t even eat it all.
Day 1
Can I just say that God is awesome! I’ll tell you a funny story…
So, Jacki is allergic to cats and dogs. The place we’re staying has cats and a dog and carpet. So, Jacki was going to take some medicine -which by the way is HUGE, because she only uses natural medicines. Well, when we got to the house, I noticed that my eyes were burning and my nose was clogging up. Apparently, I am allergic to something in the house. I know it’s not the dog, because I own a long-haired dog. I think it may be the cats or something. Anyway, we both decided to go to Wal-Mart to pick up some meds. We got some non-drowsy Claritin D. We asked the lady at the pharmacy counter if it was going to keep us up at night. She told us it wouldn’t. So, we bought it. We left Wal-Mart and headed over to Jason’s Deli for dinner. We both took our medicine after our meal and headed back to the house. Well, the stuff worked great! We both were feeling a lot better after taking the medicine.
Then, we went to bed around 10 or 11. We fell asleep, and were both wide awake by 12:30am! After that, I woke up about every hour, tossing and turning, waiting for 7am to roll around.
I am not a morning person, but today was so easy getting up! Can’t imagine why! We had breakfast and went out to the car. Just as we are about to leave, Jacki turns to me and says, “Okay, so, what if I can’t get the car out of park?” I just looked at her and laughed. Well, Jacki’s gear shift was stuck. We prayed over it and then tried again. Still nothing. Then I yelled at Satan to get out in the name of Jesus…that was fun! After that, Jacki got it, and we were on our way! Praise the Lord!
At the studio, we got a lot accomplished. First, I am SO grateful that I am working with someone who loves the Lord, and puts him first. I was thinking in my head that we should pray before we got started, but before I could say anything, he suggested that we get started with prayer. AWESOME! I layed down 8 of the 10 guitar tracks for the album! So, we are making tremendous progress! We also tested all six of the cool microphones to see which one was best for my voice.
Tennessee
Well, I’m here in Tennesse! It’s already been an adventure to say the least. I’ve already gotten frustrated, got stuck in construction traffic, dumped pulled pork all over the place, leaned over into my barbeque sauce, got stared at by old men, used a very shady bathroom, and argued with my mom. I am still determined and excited about this though! Satan can just take a hike!
A praise…God really had mercy on me as I was driving about 90 past a police car. In the mountains, it’s difficult to maintain a contstant speed. I was not paying enough attention. Fortunately, the police car didn’t come after us!
A prayer request…don’t know how I’m getting home. I talked to my mom this evening, and was told that my parents wouldn’t be coming to TX when they originally planned. So, I may have to stay an extra week. Although an extra week of vacation wouldn’t be totally bad, I hadn’t planned on spending a whole month away from home. Responsibilities in Charleston are still a priority, as is finding a job.
I will be recording tomorrow! I’m excited! Can’t wait to see how God is going to use this project! Ohh…another praise…I talked with the guy who is doing the recording (Scott) and he said that God is already at work. He ran into a guy at church yesterday who is a producer. Scott told him about me and what we were about to do, and the guy is letting him borrow some really awesome equipment: like big$$$ microphones! So, I’m excited about getting started!
Miss everyone already!
